404ops Mail Relay

Route WordPress email through your own SMTP, Gmail, SendGrid, SES, Mailgun, Postmark or Brevo — with a full searchable log.

WordPress email fails quietly. Mail Relay routes it through a mailer you control and keeps a record of every attempt, so "did that email go out?" is a question you can actually answer.

Free, and a complete toolkit

  • Seven mailers, one screen — SMTP, Gmail/Google Workspace, SendGrid, Amazon SES, Mailgun, Postmark and Brevo, each with a test-send button.
  • Gmail on your own OAuth client. You create the Google Cloud project and paste your own client ID and secret: no relay service in the middle, nobody else holding your tokens. The plugin asks Google for one permission, gmail.send, and never for read access to your mail.
  • A full, searchable email log — recipient, subject, status, mailer, the source plugin that sent it, and the provider's own response. Filter, search and page through it.
  • One-click resend for any logged message, and CSV export with optional recipient masking.
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC checking for your sending domain.
  • Credentials encrypted at rest — SMTP passwords and API keys, never logged or exported in the clear.
  • Configurable retention, pruned daily.

Switching is one screen

Import from WP Mail SMTP, Easy WP SMTP, Post SMTP or FluentSMTP — host, port, encryption, username, sending domain, region, From name and address, force-from and Return-Path.

Where the other plugin kept the credential somewhere readable, that comes across too and is re-stored encrypted at rest here. It shows you exactly what will be imported before writing anything, never touches the other plugin's settings, and saves your current configuration first so one click puts it back.

What Pro adds

  • Automatic failover to a backup mailer, with a circuit breaker and an incident log, so a struggling primary doesn't take your outgoing mail down with it.
  • Deliverability alerts — failure-rate spikes, lost domain authentication, failover events — by email or webhook.
  • A weekly AI deliverability report using your own API key: a plain-English narrative, healthy and degraded signals, and settings recommendations.

No admin-notice ads, no upgrade nags, no countdown sales. Pro is mentioned in exactly one place in the plugin: the License tab.
